410 lbs....that's supposed to be rider, passenger AND combined cargo. Max cargo is 51lbs.

That's taken from the Quick Reference in the back of the owners manual for a 2013 B, which is what I have.

I weigh 235, so I can take a passenger/cargo of 165. Ha! That leave out pretty much the family. :icon_biggrin:

What are the downsides to overloading the bike?

Your 1/4 times will be a hair off. Those are recommended numbers.

I have seen some pretty big couples on Wing's all over the place and i'm pretty sure just one of them met the capacity limit of the bike. Hey not all of us can be trim Japanese folks were big ol corn-fed Americans.

Boss Hoss BHC 3 Bike
GVWR 1675 lbs. Dry Weight 1065 lbs.
Allow 6 lbs per gallon and a tank capacity of 8.5 gallons for 51 pounds of fuel plus oil and coolant for a small block V8 at around 25 pounds So figure a wet weight of 1065+51+25=1141. So even a Boss Hoss has a max load of driver/passenger and cargo of only 534 pounds. The price is way up there.:money1::money1:

A BMW GS1200
GVWR 1045 Wet weight 564
Max load of driver/passenger and cargo of only 481 pounds. The seat height of 35 inches :banghead: rules out some potential buyers
At 5'11'' I'm not short but I don't care to tippy-toe it at the lights (31 inch inseam).

If 410 was really the limit Big Larry would have to ride naked and shave his beard. I would bet 800lbs would be doable without much trouble at all. Lawyers and real world rarely do math the same way.

What are the downsides to overloading the bike?

Slower Acceleration
Longer braking
Brakes will fade sooner
Center of balance can be too high
Increased wear
Decreased gas mileage

Be Safe
