Is it coincidence that Middle Eastern Hackers targeted us 2 days ago and on 9-11 ?

I don't know but after activating 4 new members (appeared legit from within the US) .... we were hacked again. We just lost all posts from 9-11-13.

NEW registrations will be required to give a phone number so that we can verify that it is someone from the area that their IP is coming from. NO exceptions.

Meantime we are looking for the breach in our programming.

Never did understand the motive behind hacking us,,, Did they somehow expect we would join their 'cause'? Feel sympathetic?

Uh, just the opposite reaction here. No respect shown, NONE given!

Seems like limiting or additional screening of new members may be required, at least for a while. Kinda sucks for the REAL folks who want to join!

No finances, grades, policies, corporate info, stock info, etc.

The only really confidential information would be user passwords, and F6B riders are all smart enough to use passwords different from their work or financial ones.

I'm guessing we're dealing with some social losers who don't get out of their mom's basements often enough.

Probably an 'easy target' as there's nothing here of value to anyone,,, No need for 'hyper-level' security.

Guessing it's a 'Just so you can say you did it' thing more than anything else,,, No real impact on anything,,,

Maybe it was a 'training for rookies' exercise! LOL!

Maybe it was Ma Honda attempting to quell the paint issue uprising? Obviously no deep thoughts from me today. Back to work I go.

Hate to tell ya, but I have seen phishers use local area codes in calling their mark. I had one for a pet for a few weeks, stringing him along... It was too much fun!

Well folks this is the time to start scrubbing any personal information that you have posted here. If you have a classified ad with a personal tel. number for example I would delete that right away. And generally speaking try to stay away from using your real first and last name where it might be posted for public viewing. These are basic rules you should follow on any internet site that isn't encrypted (https://) and even that's no guarantee.

-Moderator, I might also suggest paring down the VIN page so that only partial VIN #'s are exposed or omit that thread altogether.

-Vendors and others with links posted here to their personal pages I might suggest you look for edit: (unusual) traffic to your sites.

Lastly I want to thank the admin for all the work he does on our behalf. Cleaning this BS up over and over again must be very trying.

Unsub, Thanks for the reply.

The VIN list #'s are a partial of the entire VIN and the 3 digits/letters before the "K" is very important to identify your F6B which we are not publicizing. When I have a free moment, I will be deleting everyones first name from the VIN list.

Yes, cleaning up this BS is a pain in the A55 , the worst is that we have to delete an entire day of threads-posts to return the site back to the pre-hack status.

If you want to reach a member, your personal information should only be shared through a Private Message.

OK, thanks for clarifying. I should have checked first. Also in my previous post I meant that members with links back to their private and professional sites should look for Unusual activity. I mistakenly wrote Usual.:icon_redface:

We are not the only one

MANY WEBSITES that run the latest VBulletin programming are being attacked.

We are waiting for a solution from VBulletin

several other forums are getting a lot of unwanted attention.

One that I am on is getting a lot of spam-bots. The admin there switched from an auto-registration acceptance to manual. Most of the spammers are not providing any background about themselves so, it is easy to pick them out.

Not the best solution, I know.

Good luck.

Stick around! Lotsa F6B based knowledge here. Now that "nine 'leven" has passed, the hacks motivation will fade/redirect.
Admins will figure out a how to make it more difficult for 'em as well,,, :icon_wink:

Major jolt that morning and very glad to see us back up and running again.
Some server softwares are harder to hack than others. mikeysoft is a pushover so your internet server provider is very important as well.

It's obvious as hell why this and other boards are being hacked.

They are jealous seeing how the free world lives and enjoys life.

As of this morning .....

1000's of websites have been hacked.

Hackers returned to our website this morning but I caught their registration without an IP by luck. How they are getting in? No one knows as of yet. It is a MASS hacking regardless of what type of website we have. They promoted themselves to an Administrator so they could start the BS again.

1000's of sites are currently down and trying to re-upload their data, some have NO back-up, some the back-up has been corrupted (happened to us 4 months ago) and some are starting from ground zero.

F*** ! :banghead:

Hackers and spammers are a PITA.
I background check many members on the forums I'm a moderator on. I find a lot of mismatched information when they register and the software used stops them before they get in.
http://www.stopforumspam.com/search?q=176.31.117.172 for example and I use http://www.ip-tracker.org/locator/ip-lookup.php for IPs also.

The only way hackers win is if we allow them to by shying away from enjoying forums like this. Keep participating and send them the message that they can't and won't intimidate us. They must not have anything better to do with their time - like ride.

Keep on keeping on fellow riders.
