View Full Version : Saddle Bag Carpet Dimensional Diagram/Blue Print

Many moons ago I introduced a Thread outlining "Home Brewed" Saddle Bag Carpets/Liners. Since that time there have been two efforts by our members to get patterns of the carpet/liners to folks who were interested in making/cutting their own. With a never ending request from folks wanting to be on the mailing list, I thought it about time I address the waiting period for folks by simply giving them the dimension of my original patterns. All one need is two pieces of rigid cardboard and a pair of scissors and you can quickly make patterns and "git'er done":icon_lol:

I'm attaching several photos of both the right (curb) and left (road) side patterns with the actual dimensions. Fort those who are hesitant to tackle the cutting chore, just show the pics to the "lady in your life" and she'll show you how it's done:shhh: I would strongly suggest cutting the patterns 1/4" oversize, placing them in your bags and "fine tuning" as necessary/required before putting the patterns and scissors to carpet:icon_biggrin:

I do hope this speeds up the carpeting process for everyone interested:039:

What fun is that? Nobody panting at the mailbox waiting for the mailman. Damn technology, ruins everything decent and pure.

Crap, has anyone seen my iPhone?

Bob,
Thanks for posting this, been wanting to make some but didn't feel like getting involved with the passaround templates. Good to go now!

Phew, you are a patient man. I mean the $2 of poster board and 30 minutes to cut them to shape could ruin an afternoon. Glad you got fixed up.

Getting old is tough! That said, here is a dimension update for the right saddle bag diagram/blue print!

Two dimensions have been added in "RED INK"! Overlooked them on my first posting!

Hey Bob these are great. But could you tell me the measurement on the road side template from the left top edge to the semicircular notch? I can calculate the rest. If it's too much effort I can figure it out :) Thanks a bunch!

- Chuck

If I had to eyeball it it looks to be about 11-12" to notch.

When I get home I can measure it on bike :) but I am at work and feeling lazy haha

Thanks to Buckeye_F6B's sharp eyes, attached is the Updated Road Side Carpet Template:039:

22875

On the bottom right side of the template, there is a 1 1/4" slot. The height/depth is 1/2" from the bottom edge. Unfortunately, due to some black paint over-spray, that dimension can't be seen.

I'm hoping there won't have to be anymore "revisions", but if there need be, just give a holler:icon_biggrin:

I am a little anal so I had to make it match perfectly but Bob's templates were pretty spot on. The only thing I added was a little tail to the rear inside part of the left template. There was a 3 1/2 measuring from the back by 3/4" little bump so it would fit perfectly :)

You can see where I added the the extra on my template. It's the orange piece at the top right.

And the finished product. I think I even used the same floor mat you used Bob. $2.50 for one that was perfect for both templates.

Chuck:

You're living proof that duplicating the templates can be done:icon_biggrin: Glad you had success! The finished products looks great and the material/carpet looks identical to what I used:yes:

Folks:

Thanks to a observation and tip from MisterB (Robert) there is one less cut required when making your own carpets. Specifically, on the Road Side Carpet there is a 1 1/4" slot on the right side of the template which can be eliminated as the carpet simply slips under the tab for the rubber hold down strap! Yet one less step for the "Do It Yourselfer":shhh:

A pic for clarity!
