What is your longest one day ride? Tell us about it.
I went to the Republic of Texas Bike Rally a few years ago at the fair grounds east of Austin Texas on my '97' Valkyrie. If you have never been to this event, man I tell ya, what a time was had by all! WOW! Ya have to be there and see it to believe it! Anyway, I rode from the Fair grounds which is east of Austin to north Phoenix, 1143 miles in 21 hours and 23 minutes. And I took a two hour snooze on the side of the road just east of El Paso. Oh, and this was done in JUNE! Man it was HOT!
And NO! I won't do that again! LOL!

Did a 1200 mile stint once when I was a little younger on my 1500 Goldwing. Now a big day would be 500 miles if on a trip.Average Sunday putt now is a 150 miles or so.Love my F6B and it is a joy to ride but I like to stop and smell the roses these days.I have nothing to prove by doing 1000 mile days and I believe for me it would not be safe the last few hundred miles on those type of rides so not going to do it.Hell I'm retired and I earned the right to take my time now.But if ironbutt is your thing then go enjoy it even if I think your a little KOOKOO:shock:

On your recent return trip from the F6B rally, I heard you went to the moon and back in about 1.14159 seconds. I'm sure that's some kind of record

At the ripe old age of 73&1/2 about 250 miles is my limit anymore..Trading my 2011 Victory Vision next week for a F6B, Red/Black with some Cobra pipes, different windshield, grips, chrome, etc....After riding my Valkyrie Tour for 6 years, I am really looking forward to the power and smoothness of the Honda again...Like a little kid waiting for his new bike.....

Okay, my best 24 hour ride so far...2156 miles in 23 hours and 45 minutes. It was during the 1998 Big Bang Rally, out of Ely, Nevada, and the entire premise of this particular rally was to put a stop to all the catter-walling about Who could ride the most miles in 24 hours, within the IBA. Invitations were sent out to the top 100 riders around the world, we all gathered at the Hotel Nevada in Ely, NV., and when all was said and done, I ran the most miles in under 24 hours, at 2156 miles. Second place was Jan Cutler, at 1932 miles, on a BMW K1100RS, and then George Barnes at 1822 miles on a BMW K1100RS, and then Dale Wilson at 1778 miles on a Honda ST1100. BTW, I was on a '94 GL-1500 with 14.8 gallons of fuel, and two 32 oz. nitrous bottles. The normal IBA fuel limitation of 11 gallons (at that time) were removed, so we could carry as much fuel as we wanted to. :077:

A good time was had by most. :icon_mrgreen:

Why did you have the nitrous bottles?

Why did you have the nitrous bottles?

To play with the higher speed Beemers out in the high deserts of Nevada. If you can time it right, and sneak up on one of them BMW'ish bikes, it is fun to go past them at over a ton and a half, and have them wondering...How did a Goldwing 1500 just do that to me? :shhh:

My longest has been just under 1600 miles in a day. Don't want to make a habit of those, just got back from a trip and my longest day was 910.

Did 842 miles coming home from down south, stopped at home long enough to have a bite to eat and rode another 180 with the Mrs to get a coffee. Longest in several years has been around 800 in a single go, but I tend to do multiple 800 mile days back to back. Gotta love RDL seats:icon_wink:

No hijack intended but I went from a Vision to the F6B and am not looking back. The Vision for me is more comfy but the GL engine is well worth the trade off.

Rode a true chopper bagger (softail suspension, 300mm rear tire, raked out, minimal seat) from SC to Bonneville and raced it and rode it back. http://www.baggersmag.com/features/0807_hrbp_2008_redneck_engineering_undresser/viewall.html
Had one 1400 mile day and saddle sores to prove it. I like 800-900 days now if I'm trying to get somewhere. My hips are not feeling the love from the F6B ergonomics just yet. KuryAykn lowered mini-boards helped and I am waiting for my Russell Day-Long Saddle but if that doesn't do it highway pegs should.

I have done (3) 1000 + rides in the past, the last one was Savannah, Ga to Wills Point, Texas. The one before that was Souix Falls to Springfield, Ky. Then there was the trip to Richmond Va and back to Savannah in a day. All these rides were for a purpose but no interest in the IBA stuff.

A small number here, 628 miles two up. I wanted to iron butt 1200 miles back but we had hotel reservations ahead of time and that 2nd 640 mile stint back heading home sure was enough for me to pull in and relax in a hotel room!

That's an average speed of like 57 mph. I hope I can do it faster since its all 75 mph interstate we're doing it on. I'm a truck driver so long trips are no biggie but it's not the same on a bike.

Berlin in Germany to Geneva Switzerland back in the days... 1218 km, I think that is about 755 Miles, but through different countries. On a GW1500. Remember using some of the "No Speed Limit" parts of the German motorway, being passed by guys driving Porshes... You do stay in your line and look closely at your rear mirror when you want to pass someone yourself. The fun part was riding out of Berlin in the morning, passing lines of Trabant cars, barely making 90km/h and fuming out their two strokes oil mixes. By the way, do you know what to do if you want to sell your second hand Trabant twice the price ?

I did 1032 miles on my SS1000 ride in June 2012... I rode my '05 Wing at the time.

I live right off I-64 in Virginia and rode east to I-95 in Richmond then south on I-95 into North Carolina where I picked up I-40W just southeast of Raleigh. I rode I-40 clear across North Carolina, through Asheville and the Smokies and then took I-81 North toward Virginia. I picked up I-77 N, took it up near Beckley, WV, where I picked up I-64East. It joins I-81 and took that home.

18 hours. Didn't enjoy the experience. Not too alert near the end. IMO, it's dangerous to ride that long. That won't sit well with you LD riders. But it's my opinion only.

You will be surprised of how fast you would have to go to average a higher mph. When you add in your stop times, the average goes down. The last 1/4 of your ride your stop times are longer. Being consistent is the key.

I must concur with my fellow Washingtonian. I was going to post to this earlier today, and comment that for whatever speed you are actually RIDING down the road...you can deduct up to 15 mph for your total average speed for the entire trip.

If you are riding at 75 mph, and your average RIDING...or ROLLING speed is about 72.5 mph...given there are places where you have to slow down, and places where you can speed up...then in the end, with all your stops figured in...your overall average speed for the entire trip will be about 60 mph.

Now, if you are a wack-job like me, on this recent trip out to NC, then to Winnipeg, Manitoba, and home, my GPS says that my average ROLLING speed was slightly over 75 mph, and my average overall speed...including ALL stops...was a total of 71.65 mph. The difference is that my stops are very short.

Kevin is 100 % correct...consistency is the key !

On "longer" trips, I typically run between 400 - 600 miles per day. My longest was just over 850 miles on a trip from the Dallas/Ft Worth area to Big Bend National Park with a bunch of friends. We took several detours, including the Davis Loop (great ride). I did that on my 2000 Roadstar, with highway pegs and a Mustang Saddle.

I was actually pretty happy with the Mustang. It sat me slightly more forward than the stock seat, which took some getting used to, but it was very comfortable over the distance (I did several cross country trips on it).

Following that day's ride, I went hiking for several miles with no soreness or fatigue, so I guess that's as good a testament to the seat as any.

I haven't decided if I'll replace the stock seat on the F6B or not, and if so I haven't decided which I would go with.

FWIW, Mustang will have an F6B seat by the end of October.

June 1973 Minneapolis to Denver terrible cross wind and awful line of thunderstorms on a BMW R75/5 short wheelbase, unfaired with short European bars. 988 miles in just under 15 hours.

I was so exhausted you could have dug a hole, kicked me and the bike in and covered me up and I wouldn't have cared. I spent the next two days helping a friend sand the floors in his old house. I got back on the bike early Sunday, rode back and was at work Monday morning.

We pay for the follies of our youth. The damage to our bodies is cumulative over the years. Knowing your limitations is as important as finely honed riding skills. Exhaustion is insidious and creeps up on you. Now I know when to take breaks, stay hydrated, keep cool and get off the bike when tired. My maximum distance these days, under ideal conditions, is around 500 miles per day. Sunday recreational rides can run into the 200 mile range.

Bobbyf6b, are you doing this IB by yourself? One of the things to recognize while riding. The dotted center line on the highway will cause a "daze" affect. I did my SS 1,000 with 3 other guys and we would trade places so not fall into that leader position "daze affect". It happens and be aware that it is affecting you.

I might be alone or meet someone there. Who knows. I've been a professional truck driver for over 20 years so the lines don't bother me. I'm only worried about being saddle sore.
