We will be there Tuesday afternoon. I am doing a Southwestern 7 day loop before Cortez and Teresa is flying into Denver and coming down with our oldest son.
We are planning on doing a ride on Wednesday after we pick up some extra chairs.

I've posted the maps that Rick sent to me to a folder in my Dropbox account.

Anyone that wants to can view and download those files. If you have maps you'd like me to store there, send them over to me in a PM, and I'll take care of it.
Even with the best laid plans, sometimes life just gets in the way. turns out I won't be able to attend the F6B West rally. Hopefully next time.
Hi I am nor sure where the Cortez sign-up is located. In any case DIG from Schenectady NY will be riding out with ZZ.
Couple pictures from Colorado last Summer.
Great scenery and even better roads.

Big thanks to TricLed for providing Door Prizes for the Cortez Rally.
If anyone wants any specific items brought to Cortez let us know by Tuesday night. 8/7/18.
We will get it in the trailer before I leave with it on Wednesday morning.
I've added some maps that F6Bster sent over to the folder on Dropbox, both in .gpx and .pdf format. The link to the folder is above on this page, as well as in the original post on page 1.

See you up there.
Leaving on the 18th
Please take me off the list for Cortez, cancelled my room this morning, life and it's way of getting in the way, forced my summer plans to change. Have fun.
Same here as choptop. New construction here at the house was to be done by now but no luck. Piss-ed that the work is not done as I was starting to plan and pack but noooooooooooooo. You all have a great rally. I'll make it next year.
Made it to Cortez later on Tuesday. Route 160 is a pretty cool road coming across. Not as good with the truck and trailer. Left the Truck and Trailer in Cortez yesterday morning and rode down to the Painted Desert and Petrified Forest. One of our friends that helps us rode a Spyder out here, so I got our Spyder F3 out of the trailer to ride for the next few days. Going to be a Spyder Rider for the week.
Not the same, but still a lot of fun.
See you all next week.

It looks like I'll be able to get to Cortez, at least for a few of the days. I'm thinking of staying next door at the Best Western or down the street in the Holiday Inn or Hampton Inn. Looking forward to meeting some fellow F6Bers!
Good news. I'm meeting a guy from the Springs (jimsom) at the Hungry Bear in Woodland Park around 7am on Wednesday (7am is the plan for right now) so we'll probably leave the Bear around 7:30-7:45am. We'll determine the route over breakfast. I'm staying at the Hampton. My old back has to have a good bed, and their breakfast is usually pretty good.

I'll be picking up Route 160 Wednesday via Walensburg after leaving Raton (where I'll be staying overnight Tues).
Looks great on the map.
As F6Dave posted earlier. After you cross Raton Pass and drop down into Trinidad, Head west on CO-12 (Hwy of Legends). Great ride through Stonewall and then up over Cuchara Pass to LaVeta to US-160 West. It is very nice!!!!Quote:

Good to hear. I'll be picking up this road in Walsenburg coming from Rock Ford after staying the night in Goodland, KS.
I'm doing the Hiway of Legends (12) from Trinidad myself, then Charma, up to South Fork, Creede, Lake City, Gunnison area with an out and back on 92 before heading down on the million Dollar Hiway to Cortez. Hope to be in Trinidad by Monday afternoon to have time to do that northern loop..
Can't wait to feel some of those less than 70 deg temps.
I am going to be in Cortez Monday afternoon and plan on riding Co-149 (Creede, Lake City etc) on Tuesday. I plan on an early start and will probably be fueling at the Conoco in South Fork between 9:30 and 10:00 AM if you want to try and hook up. I may have another bike with me.
See you next week

Got a room for Monday night in Pagosa Springs so now it is a for sure.
You guys will have fun for sure!!! AZ has ridden it so he knows what a great ride it is. Be sure to stop and look at North Clear Creek Falls on the right about 1/4-1/2 mile after you crest the ridge after the pulloff for the overlook of the Rio Grande headwaters on the left.
2wheels. Sounds like you are going to ride Cumbres and LaManga Passes from Antonito to Chama. That is a GREAT ride also!!!! Few more hills than the Pensacola area!!!!
Yes both, thinking they will be much better than the pictures on Google Street View, those have too much snow ruining the view.
Those passes get a lot of snow in the winter. Just beautiful in April!!!
We will definitely stop at North Clear Creek Falls.
For everyone coming out to Cortez I have a couple of words of advice: Drink lots of water and stay hydrated!!!!
The sun and high altitude will affect you more than you might imagine. Swig lots of water, especially every time you make a stop. Some of the passes are near 12,000 feet and you don’t get as much oxygen, so you’ll need to move a little slower and drink the water to help avoid altitude sickness (headache and nausea). Alcohol and smoking can make the sickness worse, so keep this in mind if altitude sickness hits.
F6Bster hit the nail on the head. Hydration is as important in the high country as it is in the desert. Carry water on the bike don't depend on finding it when you stop. You will most likely stop at overlooks and points of interest where there isn't any water.
See everyone in a few days.

Road from Flagstaff to Hoover Dam today, Temps were high 90's last 60 miles. Was about 107 deg at the Dam taking the tours and walking around.
Riding up to North Las Vegas afterwards was about 112 deg. I don't think I have ever ridden in that kind of heat. Going up to Zion tomorrow, should be a little cooler.
Zion from Cortez can be a nice ride. Utah-95,Utah-24, Utah-12, Us-89 and then Utah-9 is a very scenic route. Zion will be warm but Bryce Canyon on Utah-12 is at 8,000 ft and is beautiful and a lot cooler. I was at Zion last month and the crowds are huge so bring some patience.
Have a great ride

Cancelled reservation at Cortez Super 8, if anyone is looking for a room. Real life interferes with my playtime again.
