Saw this on the GL1800 site. Guy named Phil with a 02 Goldwing in Florida.
Word is he has replaced two altenators and one water pump.Otherwise just oil changes and routine maint.

Don't know specifically bout 1800 motor but I did know of a 1500 Valk (a few yrs ago) that had 350,000 w/ just a couple of alternators and a final drive.
No reason to believe 1800 couldn't do that also. Just gotta use the right oil. :yikes:
I ran into a guy at a Valkyrie Rally here in Northern Mich. a couple years ago that had over 300,000miles on his 98 Valkyrie Tour...Don't remember his name or any details as I had sold mine by then and was riding a Victory until my F6B...I do remember him telling us that he had only changed tires, battery, rear gears, and forks I think...Thing looked liked brand new.....
And that is why I bought this bike. :clap2:
I saw that post on the other site and the post stated he changes oil every 10000
miles and I believe the filter at 5000 miles this is truly the greatest engine for touring
ever put on two wheels.
I wonder how he changes the filter without all the oil falling out. :icon_wink:Quote:

If I remember I will try it next week before heading south, and report back…… I also know of a Rune that went 600 miles with NO fluid in the cooling system, never missed a beat or over heated !!!
I think it might be the opposite. Oil every 5k and filter every 10k. But I could be wrong.
Do we have any bird hunters on this oil filter change thread the oil
will not all run out because the oil filter was remove oil travels threw
the engine because of the oil pump not gravity, most people remove
drain pug first try removing the oil filter first if all your oil runs out
and you show a video of that I will have crow that day if not do you like
your crow with or without feathers.
Have a guy in AZ I ride with occasionally has an 1800 wing with 227K on it with only issues being the alternator. He beats the ever loving crap out of his wing and it keeps on running. I envy those of you that have so much free time to spin up all those miles. I'm lucky to get 6K in a year. At that rate my 6B should be good for ..... ever :yikes: ?!
Hmmm maybe I figured out why the wife was cool with this one. May stem my bike changing habits? (this one is my 16th different ride).
I'm hoping for a minimum of 350k miles! :041:
This is a very under-stressed motor, turning low RPM's.
Very few MC owners ever ride or keep their bikes that long, so it's really overkill.
I'll take a little more power for a little shorter lifespan, myself. :shhh:
