    Dunno....

....but I've been running all over the place on my Michelin Alpine 3 during this current F6B Rally in Pidgeon Ford. No issues.

Ran hard to Atlanta Monday (729 miles). No issues. Did not blow up.

My cousin is not a motorcyclist and assumed the big Honda was like mine, an F6B. I was actually more interested in learning which brand/type of tire failed but Cousin didn't have access to police yard after he left.

I am perfectly aware that our motorcycle tires fail also - but we never hear about the darksider failures. thus the post.

peace out. and even more importantly our condolences to this man and his family.
Had you attached this explanation to your original post and ending that post with "blast away", it appears your intent was to "rattle folks cages". Just some food for thought

I'm also sure that each and all of us members/riders feels compassion and sorrow for this gentleman and his family!

@Bob109 - You are right - I no sooner hit the post button as I was thinking the same thing you said - sigh, brain fart. Interesting to note I posted the same thing on the Valkyrie Forum and got some interesting investigative efforts. Yeah I own and F6B and and F6C. I haven't figured out how to edit my title as of yet.

Point of Interest - While I was originally a detractor of the dark side practice, I have a different spin on things now - after I went to Daytona Bike Week Fall of 2016 and saw every imaginable type of crazy on motorcycle I decided it was not for me to judge. I may not ride the dark side, but I wont judge those who want to either... these days I am more interested in LEARNING about the affects of CT's on Motorcycles. As someone mentioned I think obtaining data from solid accident investigations is more important.

Thanks and sorry for rattling the cages.

I have never seen any data regarding mc accidents caused by mc tires. I keep hearing a lot of bs from armchair engineers about why they are dangerous but no one ever presents any hard facts just opinions. I have been riding on ct's for nearly 20 yrs with no problems. If the insurance co.'s get wind of how popular ds is becoming I think we are going to be screwed if any of us has an accident regardless if the ct was at fault or not, they will not pay the claim. If State or local govt.'s find out about this than God help us all.

A Bridgestone Driveguard has a 1200 lb load index.... Thats about 50% more than any motorcycle tire. It also is a runflat with very durable sidewalls. I wonder what the weight of the 2 riders together plus the weight of the bike divided by 2 was putting pressure on the rear and front tire. Most Goldwings would be overloaded or close to it on a standard OEM front tire and rear OEM if the 2 riders are large people. 900 + 220 + 180 =1300 / 2 =650 lbs per tire..... not even close to a Driveguard RF rear. I want the security of my CT. I now have my original OEM rear back on while getting a new Driveguard after 29,000 miles on the old one. I do not like the feel of the OEM after using the OEM for the last 1,000 miles. CT for me.... much safer.

The report didn't say what shape the tire was in. Tread depth. I won't believe anything till I see a report on the actual cause of the accident.
With 2 riders, a sharp object, who knows.
I have had blow outs on rear MC tires, and it was like I was on ice. Very scary.
I don't ride DS but that has to be a bit more or maybe even less dramatic.
Would that wide tire be better or worse in this case?

Due to current events and opinions you may have to sign a release excluding me in case you explode or catch on fire.

Free country, your bike, your skin, run what you're comfortable riding & you want.
After following a buddy w/ a CT for few hundred miles, every time he leaned his VTX 1800 over on a turn, it would get on the edge of that CT & squirm around, I thought he was going down......BUT he got 38,000 miles out of it...……………OH!…..happy days..…………………...Me, I'll stick with the MC tires, get half the mileage & know my insurance co. will cover me.

    And the answer is: "Engineering"

'Minor' things like Statics, Dynamics, Themodynamics, Chemical Composition, Physics, Coefficients of Friction, Sidewall load ratings...etc.
