Mt. St. Helens in Washington state in the background as seen from the Oregon side. Almost 39 years after the volcano erupted in May,1980.

That brings back memories. I was riding through there only a few weeks after the eruption on my Suzuki GS1000. Ash was everywhere on one stretch. Most gas stations were full service back then, and when you stopped to fill up, they offered to blow out your air filter. New filters were completely sold out.

The ash was extremely abrasive. It worked its way into my chain and seized the rollers to the pins.
