    Tire failure

I was thinking about trying a Bridgestone. Now I see this and it appears to be a Bridgestone from the tread design. I know nothing about the cause or the Owner but sure feel it should never have happened to any tire or for almost any reason.

Interestingly enough it still seems to be holding air. I wonder if the tire impacted something while underway and this was the resultant damage....

If that's a Bridgestone, that tire should have been changed long before this. The center groove is long worn off. Good to know what's under the outside rubber!

i second what wjduke said. the center groove is long gone (probably over 18,000 miles on that tire). just the fact that it still holds air with that amount of wear is pretty amazing. i think he got his money's worth from that "stone"

i have a set of both bridgestone 709/704's and dunlop elite 4's on two sets of rims..... i prefer the "stones"
    What? Coffee ISN'T free?

Why would a rider run a tire with zero tread first off?

I saw this happen on a buddies bike, he ran it with no thread left, and on a hot day the rubber flew off in chunks, but that was his rear. (centrifugal force, hot pavement and no tread to disperse the heat.
    Plain stupidity on his part...

Can't understand how the cost of new tires is more important then your life.I change mine out when I hit the wear bars and do both when the rear is gone even though I could get a few more miles out of the front. That tire was gone before it ripped open.

It's delamination aka the damn thing came apart. It should not have happened. I bet it may be a very old tire, run low on air at sometime, near flat. Happen on a '2006 FJR I brought in '2012 w/ only 1700 miles on the bike. It had stones (I think) & the front tire came apart from old age. On went the AVONs w/ beads. Bike was wicked fast. If my memory is correct, it was 1300cc w/ 144hp, right at 600#

So the consensus of what I read so far, is that the tire was abused.
