Looks like a good idea for some vehicles that have an easily accessible filter. On the GL-1800, with the filter right next to the drain plug, I'm not sure you save much time since you need to be working in that area anyway.
There are some interesting oil filters and drain plugs showing up in automotive engines. The Ford 2.7 twin turbo engine, used in the F150 and Fusion Sport, has a plastic oil pan with a quick release plug that can be removed without tools. The plug is so large that all the oil drains in just seconds. The filter is a canister type in a top opening plastic housing on top of the engine. It can be changed without spilling a drop.
