MOUNTAIN CREEK RETREAT REVIEW (5 STARS) *****
This is a review for a cabin rental in Murphy, North Carolina (MountainCreekRetreat.com) owned by Eric and Zoe Schechter. We are a motorcycle family and looked for a cabin rental that would be motorcycle friendly. We hit the jackpot!! Eric and Zoe both used to be motorcycle safety instructors and have 6 or 7 motorcycles in their garage which is located down the hill on the adjoining property. Close enough to be of service but far enough away for quiet relaxation. If you had a breakdown on a bike Eric has a lift and tools and a lot of motorcycle stuff most places wouldn't have. He is also a great resource for motorcycle service, tires and such that you might end up needing if something were to go wrong. Eric and Zoe quickly became friends and we would tell them about our adventures during the day. They are friendly with great outgoing personalities.
This Cabin was one of the most clean rentals that we have ever experienced. The kitchen had everything we needed. There was a brand new grill on the deck and then another park style grill down by the fire pit. There were two twin beds upstairs and one queen bed downstairs and a queen pull out sofa in the living room. Eric also said he had some blow up mattresses if we needed to make room for someone else. There was a garage for the bikes that would easily hold 5 or 6 full size touring bikes. We had a Honda Goldwing F6B, BMW S1000XR, a new Honda Goldwing and a Ducati Multistrada in there with room left for a couple more bikes. There was an air compressor for filling your tires, there was a bucket, soap and hose for washing your bikes. There were a few rags and a leaf blower. We put close to 3k miles on the bikes and washed them every night then parked them in the garage. I love that feeling of clean dry bikes waiting for me in the morning. The paved driveway was very nice! The cabin is 2 miles from old downtown Murphy. Walmart and Ingles are about 5 miles away. The casino is like 6 or 7 miles away. My point is, the cabin is out in the country but close to town for the things you might need.
As a motorcycle rider you can come out in the morning and take 74 west to 68 into Telico Plains and then pick up the Cherohala Skyway and then once in Robbinsville take 129 into the Tail of the Dragon and then pick up the Foothills parkway and ride that all the way up to almost Pigeon Forge on 321. Absolutely great riding! Some of the best.
Other then being motorcycle friendly, the cabin was set up for just about anything you might need. Eric and Zoe thought about everything. One thing we loved was the full sized washer and dryer. The water at the cabin tastes great. Its well water but was very good tasting. When we got there Zoe had left us farm fresh brown eggs which we ate all of and asked for more. They even let us borrow a truck to go to the store and load up on food and other things we needed to pick up. There was a great fire pit with lots of wood to feed the fire. We also saw deer every night we were there. Eric has a feeder set up and the deer love it. BTW, the cabin is pet friendly. But we couldn't tell because the place was so clean. The showers were clean and had soap and shampoo dispensers mounted on the wall of the shower. A nice touch I thought. Cable TV and WIFI was there. I watched some football in the evenings.
Eric and Zoe worked hard to create a motorcycle friendly place. BUT, its clean and neat and prim and proper too. Its not some gear head greasy dump. If you didn't have motorcycles it would be a great place to stay and you would enjoy every minute of it. The rates were better then most and the return for the money was a great deal I thought.
To point out a couple things. If your a motorcyclist or biker you need to be aware of a couple things. First, when you turn onto Warren drive it goes steeply up hill, its paved and no big deal but you need to be aware and watch for oncoming traffic. At the end of Warren drive.....there is a 1/10th of a mile gravel lane that leads to the paved driveway to the cabin. It is not a big deal as its flat and only goes a short way. But you should at least know in advance. My girlfriend who has only been riding a year parked her bike on the asphalt and I rode her up to the cabin and then came back and got her bike. One other thing that I found helpful is that the drive way goes up behind the cabin then down the hill and comes out. So there are posted Entry and Exit signs at the bottom of each drive. I found it a little easier to go up the exit. That was just my preference.
Bottom line. A great place for motorcyclist and bikers to stay! Hands down one of the best places I have stayed. Eric and Zoe are great people and became friends very quickly. Their love for motorcycles and the desire to make a great place comfortable, clean and affordable is evident and rewarding. Thank you Eric and Zoe.
