    Are the cooling fans on when this is happening?

    There are no exposed pulleys/belts, etc on our bikes. Even the alternator is gear drive.

    My fans came on for the first time (that I know of) this weekend in 100 degree stop and go traffic.

    No it does it when it's cold too.
