Yea man. This is summertime. Fricken storms just pop out of NOWHERE... I live and die by the Doppler radar app on my cell phone when riding.

Normally you can see a rain front coming towards you, usually moving from the west. But now... you can be staring at your Doppler app and time lapse shows a huge thunderstorm just appearing out of nowhere, RIGHT ON TOP of you.

I use the paid version of My Radar Pro on my IOS devices. We also use it at BWI to forecast weather when planning for deicing operations with aircraft (along with WeatherUndergound)... better than METAR sometimes...

8 July 2015 I was caught in one in Mill City, Nevada, deputy sheriffs closed down I-80, they made us pull off on to the exit ramp. Stood outside in that for over 30 minutes. Luckily, the wind, gusts of 60 mph, was coming from the North so, facing East, I stood on the side of a tractor trailer which helped block it. After it passed rode back East to Winnwmuca and grabbed a room. The one thing that was going through my mind was those pioneers in just a covered wagon crossing West, how did they do it. What grit and determination they had. Truly, an incredible people.
