What my friend in TX is alluding to, is the thread by SRT-8-in-Largo, where he lost his tranny at about 14k after installing a HT shifter.
Give it a Search and peruse it and make a decision for yourself.
My '81 Wing had an HT shifter, still does, and has over 80K on it and doing well, according to the new owner.
Other Wings have had issues that have been indirectly attributed to the stresses an HT shifter adds.
Some claim it's good science, others, witchcraft.

The choice is yours!
