It is indeed an R Nine T, BMW commissioned 4 or 5 of them to be customized to show what could be done with the platform.
"I like the looks of the R Nine T, but it's just not uncomfortable enough... Can you fix that?"
Well the Germans need all the help they can get, they design some gawdawful ugly bikes IMHO.
