When is it time to replace your helmet?

I have heard one should replace their helmet every five years because the foam breaks down. Is it five years from the manufactured date or from the date of purchase?

I think care and storage conditions can extend that 5 year window but it's a good guideline.

When you can smell it from 5 feet away or less.

You guys wearing 1/2 or even 3/4 helmets shouldn't be concerned, right?

It was recently proven that 'Snell' helmets did not protect as well as much cheaper brands with softer shells, which absorb more impact.

Additionally, no helmet will protect you in a direct impact collision resulting in cervical vertebra compression or fracture.
Re-tired, or Re-tard. Depends on your attitude.

If I can't fix it, I will fix it so no one can fix it.

Hmm...then it has to be really bad, considering they like to lick the sweat off a person, lick their own pee pee, sniff and lick other dogs anual and there are some dogs that like yo eat their own poo. Yuck!!!

If your helmet is good quality product and doesn't have significant scratches ( or damages ) , sometimes replacing just liners and cheek pads makes more sense . Simply find all prices , compare and make smart choice . Good luck .
