You are correct, SIMILAR in the fact that they are identical 1832cc's. (same engine platform)

The only mechanical differences are the throttle bodies, 6 on the Rune and 2 on the F6B and the Transmission on the Rune was designed for Torque, the F6B (like its GL1800 Goldwing predecessors) for Horse Power. The Rune has under 105 HP and the GoldWings have over 115 HP.

The engines are virtually out of the same molds, very little change, ie Alternators, gearing, bearings and seals.
