A study of 15,000 men has found the average penis size is just over five inches.

Gentlemen, cherish this sweet news: at last, there’s a survey out that doesn’t make the vast majority of men feel like miserable flops.
A definitive British study examining the findings of 17 others into penis size has revealed that the average length of a British todger isn’t the previously esteemd six inches, but a more frugal 5.16 inches.
What’s in 0.84 of an inch, you might say? Quite a lot if you’re an honest bloke, for this is an enormous boost to those among us who overnight will have gone from Average Joe to Officially Above Average Joe.
The study was led by the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience at King’s College London and South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust.
The work was carried out with the noble duty of proving to men that while it might be completely normal to worry about penis size, other blokes aren’t as quite big as you might fear.
The researchers looked at data for more than 15,500 men and, as well as erect length, concluded that the average length of a flaccid phallus was 3.6 inches, average flaccid circumference was 3.66 inches, and the average erect circumference was 4.59 inches.
Those on search of a further confidence boost might take cruel comfort from the fact that the smallest measured penis in the UK was a lowly 1.9 inches, while the biggest was a mere 8.3 inches. (I say “mere” not in relation to my own decidedly average appendage, but the myth that porn would have us believe that half of the world’s men resemble human tripods or walking draught excluders).
The study also seems to dispel once and for all the myth of “are you a shower or a grower?” that has long been concocted to make penally challenged men feel sure that smaller members can roar into life, while bigger ones (not theirs) merely stand up without increasing much at all. The study seems to show that both flaccid and erect length and circumference appear to be directly linked.
Still, it’s a bad news day for lofty types like Peter Crouch: scientists found there was no correlation between height and length of erect member (and, perhaps sensibly, they didn’t even bother to probe the old “you know what they say about big feet…” adage).
But the study does raise one potentially worrying question. If the previous average was thought to be a solid six inches, and the new official length is 'just' 5.16 inches, is something happening to the Great British todger? Are they contracting – and if so, why? Reports of penises getting smaller have been circulating online for some time - does this report provide the evidence?
Could this apparent decline be down to a new-found dose of honesty, or a collective crisis of conscience? It seems unlikely: after all, it’s long been accepted that penises come in three sizes: small, medium and liar.
Is it down to a simple measuring anomaly? In this new study, trained health professionals did the measuring. So maybe optimistic men have been “adding a bit for good luck”. So were men just fiddling the figures all along? It’s definitely an option.
Or could it be that today’s young men so inept at DIY they no longer know how to use a tape measure? Do soaring energy prices mean we've all been turning the heating down (we all know what happens in cold weather)?
For rejoicing British men, all of this is immaterial. We’re all effectively an inch bigger than we thought we were yesterday.
And it’s not often you can say that in life, is it?
