    Socalmoto HIDS...

Just installed the high and low HIDs from Socal...Man what a huge difference but I have a question about the need for the delay relay...Is this really necessary?..I know its supposed to be easier on the ballasts but I dont like the idea of not being able to turn on the lights until the motor is started...Anyone have any personal adverse experience by not installing their relay?...Thanks in advance..

I do not have the HIDs, but in weighing the decision, the delay issue came up.
Not sure if it's the ballasts, but I thought the actual lamp itself had a finite number of OFF-ON cycles and the delay basically saves half of them.

Like you, I was reluctant to require the engine on to have my lights on, so I was toying with a manual override switch for emergency use.

In the end I decided that a few clicks up on the stock lights has me seeing just fine down the road and that I was going to wait and see what Hornblower had accomplished with LEDs.

Ask Steve 0080 about "why the delay" - I think he was the one schooling me.

The delay is there because upon start up the bulbs pulled alot of amps at fireup and goes back down to normal amperage. When stsrting the bike at the same time as the bulbs are firing it puts an excessive load on the ballasts...Im just wondering if its something I'll have to replace every 3 yrs, 5 yrs etc if I dont install the delay...
