In late 1990, while sitting in the desert just south of Kuwait, I remembered that Patton read his enemies' books, so I found a translation of the Quran and read it.
Then I found a different translation, and read it.
I'm sure some subtlety is lost in ANY translation, but the bottom line is that if a Quran follower encounters a non-believer, that non-believer MUST be converted or killed.
Not much room for interpretation.

The corollary is that there is no such thing as a truly "moderate Muslim." Those who profess to be that way are either not following Islam or are lying to you.
