Time to replace my Kumho

I have been very happy with the ride and traction of the Kumho. Even at 18,000 miles the wet traction was still good. Couple weeks ago on I95 in a down pour while leaned in a long sweeping corner the worn down Kumho held its ground. BUT I am noticing the edges are getting warn down. The center is just about at the wear bars and for me... when I start to think about my tires that means it's time to replace the tire.


Although the Kumho has served me well and performed as I wanted, I am thinking about switching to another tire. Mainly because I have nothing to base a comparison on without trying different manufacturers.
I will stick with a run flat and keep with a high traction rating. I will now look more at the edge tread as that seem to be my faster wear point.
Maybe a Yokohama AVID ENVIGOR. any thoughts......

I can't give you any longevity reports, but I just put a Bridgestone Driveguard Runflat on my B a month and a half back. I'm really liking it. I only have 1100 miles on it so far but I can't tell any difference between it and the stock mc tires that came on the bike. It leans over very easily.

It was only 106 bucks at a local tire store(Flatsos).

Ratings on it seem to be pretty good but the few negative ratings say it doesn't do well when it hits a deep pothole...as in destructs in a couple of cases.

I DO have FOBO tire pressure monitors on my bike. Might be the best 100 bucks I've spent on any accessorie. I want to know when I'm losing tire pressure while riding. If the TPM system gives me 4 seconds notice, that could be enough to scrub a lot of speed off and save my hide.
When running a Runflat, it is highly recommended to have a TPM system.

I have been eyeing that tire also Steve. I like the fact that it has more tread farther up the side of the tire than the Kumho.

YUP only 18k. BUT the reason for pulling the tire off is that the edges of the tread along the sidewall is worn very thin. Hard to see in the pic I posted.

As much as I try to tell myself it is not an issue,,, I need the symmetry to feel better.

Foolish as it may be I can't get past that.

Yeah, I understand. The best way I can answer that is to say, I've never been able to "feel" the tread beneath me on any tire I've ever ridden on---only when it slides out from under me, which this one has never done. I can tell no difference in the tread pattern when I make a right turn vs a left.

After tossing around different tires I have decided to stick with the Kumho... For me it just plain works. It handles very well and even though it is a run flat it offers a bit softer ride than the stock tire.
I did think I would get a bit more mileage out of the Kumho, but I am ok with 18,000 seeing that the edges are what are warn the most. I may need to bump up the PSI back to 35. 32 might have been a bit soft and added to the quick edge wear.
