Now that is interesting!
Back in the days of rebuilding carbs, I learned a trick from an old man that would take a carburetor apart and cook it in anti freeze on low setting in a Croc Pot for 2 days. He would take it out, rinse with water and spray with WD-40 and then dry with a cloth. That process would make a 40 year old carb look like brand new---no stains anywhere. When I was flying RC airplanes, the castor oil would stain the mufflers and discolor the engines. This process worked great on that, too.
I really enjoy learning new tricks like this.
