Yup . . . powder coating is the way to go with Ergo II with the six inch extensions. Just installed these the other night. Mine were powder coated flat black whereas Fla rider went gloss. Only issue you need to be aware of is you'll have to take the pieces apart prior to powder coating and one is a bit tricky to reassemble once it has the coating on it (due to a tight fit with a D washer. A little sanding though and all is good).
Hey thanks Brasco, that is what I thought in the first place....
Now.......
Just so I know.. would the people who powder coat it also be the ones who would sand blast it? I'm postulating they would need that before the powder coat.
Also.. what price should I expect to pay for that approx. of course.
And yes I would get flat black powder coat if I can.. not sure what is around me for that kinda work... I'll have to check into it...
Thanks again!
Mac
Hi Mac . . . yes, the powder coat place will do the surface prep on the chrome but I was told sand blasting wasn't what they do on small pieces like this (and because they're chrome they don't take kindly to sandblasting apparently). There is some other type of surface prep involving a chemical wash or something similar they used -- not too sure. Regardless, the end product turned out perfectly but I was warned not to expect them to hold up perfectly over the long haul. My powder coat place recommended flat black Tremclad spray paint as the best way to cover up any flaking or imperfections that develop from road debris. Or, as he said smiling, you can bring 'em back and we'll re-powder coat them for you. The cost was $100 Canuckbucks so about $77 to $80 US funds. You'll probably get it done much cheaper in the US. One last thing. I might not take the part called the clevis mount apart (it has the D washer in it). In hindsight it probably wasn't necessary for this piece. The clevis mounts to the footpeg (rubber inserts that have to come off that by the way) and removing the D ring may affect the tightness of the hinging action when you want to tilt the peg up and out of the way. Mine is okay but probably just a little looser than it was originally.
Brasco,
Thanks for the input.... I'm going to give a few places down here a call and see what they say.. I've got the yellow wing so realy dont' want much chrome on it at all..... ashame they don't make em in black....
Real good to know about the clevis part.. Ride safe ay!
