Thank you all for your help. I ended up with a Saddlemen BR3400 and happy with the capacity (I could live for 2 weeks outta this thing...heck I might could live IN this thing!) but strapping it down securely is puzzling. Any suggestions?

This works for me....sturdy and has multi tie down points. Fits on back of seat or MP3 rack. Been through some heavy rains and contents stayed dry. Also has some reflective touches.
The GIVI bag looks like just the ticket. Excellent choice for road trips. Once you realize it's beginning to pour down rain, finding a place to pull off on the interstate to attach a rain fly can be tricky. Great choice, load it and forget it.

North Face duffel bag and two backpacks secured with Rok Straps is all I need. Easy to load and unload. I keep the goodies I need most in the backpack pockets.Rear backpack is secured to backrest extension.Attachment 22709
