I don't know about the numbers in the US, but i can give you a few of Germany, which should be similar.

  • every sixth dead in traffic is a motorcyclist
  • more than the half of the killed motorcyclists are older than 30 years (56,5%) with a high rise in the ages between 40 and 50 (midlife crisis?).
  • motorcyclists on sport bikes, naked bikes, sport tourers are more often involved in accidents than choppers, cruisers.
  • if there's a crash between a car and a motorcycle, in more than 70% it is the car drivers fault
  • three main reasons for accidents: high speed, insufficient safety distance, overtake in obscure traffic
  • most dead motorcyclists in August

Let's all be aware in traffic and still have fun with this wonderful hobby!
