For the Aussies out there...I visited my local Locksmith and he cut a spare key which opens the Cubby and Fuel Cap (not the rear Trunk when I installed the radio knob.....must need it a tad longer). He used a Toyota blank. $6 for the key all up, and a black radio knob from Jaycar for about $1. The only tricky bit, which isn't all that tricky is cutting the key down with a Dremmel with the key in a vice to remove the fat end to fit into the knob which has got a small screw to hold it in place and I filled it with glue on top of that.

He cut the key to replicate the original and it won't start the bike because there's no CHIP in the Toyota blank. On that note, he did say that he can copy the Chip with a machine he's got if I ever need another ignition key.

It sits in the Cubby slot....as I think it looks a bit dorky sitting in the Fuel cap.

Your F6B has a chipped key???????????????? I like to see that. I have ones in my Runes H.I.S.S. it's an acronym for "Honda Ignition Security System" and the name of Honda's immobilizer system for theft prevention, but not for my 2013 F6B USA model.

Not true, but yes, and why I have three keys for each Rune and the programing harness to do my own coding, I ain't going to buy a new ECU cause of lost keys. There are several makes of Hondas with HISS, and with the HISS 2.
What sets HISS 2 apart from its predecessor - the original HISS system - is a secure bracket which holds the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) in place, making its removal almost impossible. The new system was developed by Honda in conjunction with vehicle alarm specialist, Datatool system and is found in the UK & European models only as far as I know, but I could be wrong about that(Australia???).

Hey BIGLRY. I wasn't even aware that there was a CHIP until I took the bike to a Locksmith and he tested the OEM key (after he asked me and I said I don't have a clue :-) . I always assumed there was a Security System simply because of the HISS sticker on the 'tank'.

I think all Aussie F6B's came with the HISS and ABS and lost a couple of other thinks e.g. Driving Light harness and maybe a couple of other things I haven't found yet. My bike is a 2014 'Standard'.

As I mentioned, the Locksmith did say he could create a Key with CHIP by copying my original key in some new fangled machine he's got on his bench that reads the data. I'm assuming it wouldn't cost a lot, this guy does work out of a shed.

I have serious doubt he can do it that way as the system uses a contact communications method similar to IC cards, its operation has no effect on battery life. However, the engine cannot be started if the vehicle's battery is completely discharged
Good info on the HISS system on Down Under bikes, As long as you have one old HISS chip key it is easy to make a new one and program it with a simple wiring harness no "new fangled machine" is needed, I've done several as many Rune owners have.
The issue is if you don't have the OEM HISS key there is no way anyone can make a new one including Honda, but by buying a new ECU and matching key. I assume you have two keys now from Honda and would recommend having another one made and programed then put in a very safe place.

I also used Ace Hardware blanks and JB Weld and they work great and won't start the bike.

Thanks again BIGLRY. I'll test him out over the next couple of days to see if he can copy a Honda ignition key with HISS. When I was in his shop getting the Cubby blank cut it was him that brought up the "I can copy that Chip key" comment, so I'll give him a run and if successful I will store that key away somewhere safe (most likely never to be found again on past performances )
